The Grapes of Wrath #16
In the novel The Grapes of Wrath, the Joad family is moving west to California in search for work and to get away from the banks that are stealing their land. Tom Joad was in prison for killing a man who tried to kill him in a bar. Tom said that he was not ahamed of what he did. He was glad he killed him. This is a sad thing because it is a horrible thing to kill a person and not to be ashamed of it. He was sentenced to seven years in the prison, but he was a good boy and was set free within four, but he was on parole. This is a good thing because though he did kill the man, he did it out of defense. On his parole, Tom Joad could not cross the state line of Oklahoma. When he found his family, he did anyway. On his way home Tom hitched hiked with a truck driver. It was a very nice thing for the driver because on the truck it said that he was not allowed to give rides to strangers. Tom called his bluff and he got a ride with him. The truck driver was probably scared of Tom because he told him that he killed a guy. The truck dirver did not want ot know anything about Tom. He did not even ask his name. This probably shows that he did not want to drive or be with Tom, but he did anyway. When Tom got out of the of the truck and started to walk. On the raod, he say a turtle. There was this whole big schpeal about the turtle. It talked about how he was moving so slow and he was in the middle of the road and he could get ran over. I think Tom is a little crazy because he is very interested in the turtle. The turtle was also on its death bed by walking in the middle of the road because a truck or a car could come by and run him over, and he would die. Tom Joad is a little crazy. He goes out of his parole, and he kills another guy. I do not understand why he would do this. It was very stupid.
