The Grapes of Wrath #11
Back in the 1930's there was a big class difference. By this I mean that there were different levels of people in their income and how their style of life is. Today most people are in the middle class. That means that we do not get a lot of luxurious things, but we do make enough money to be happy. There is also the wealthy class that gets everything they want because they have the money for it. Then there is the poor class. The poor class is a class that I feel very sorry for. I do because sometimes they can not help it. They might try to get money, but it is hard. It is mostly hard because of the way they were raised. They were raised in a third world way. Third world is a term that we use a lot with foreign countries that do not have a lot of rich people and the living conditions for the common people are cruel. These are classes that are important and have always been important. Some people have gone above their class. For example, Oprah Winfrey. She was raised in a shack, now she is very rich and famous. The Joad family was in the middle to lower class. They did not have very much money. That is why they moved to California. They were forced off their land because they could not afford to live on the land because they needed to own a tractor to be able to keep up. They could not afford a tractor. They moved to California in search for money. This was kind of a wise choice. It probably was becuse they needed to leave their home, but the promises in California was lies. The Joad family along with the other families in the 1930's and so on to this day are always trying to get out of their class because they think money means happiness. It does not.
