Fahrenheit 451 #5

Mildred is the dreadful wife of Guy Montag. She is a very rude and selfish lady. I say selfish because when we first meet her she is laying in her bed, listening to the radio, and over dosing on her pills. When Guy takes her to the hospital, she does not even thank him. She acts like it did not even happen. This shows that she does not care for many people besides herself. She is also extremely rude to Guy Montag. She is always wanting more. She is a play writer and she want a "Fourth wall" in her house. Guy tells her that one wall is two thousand dollars and she does not care. This shows she is rude and uncaring because she does not work and Montag does not want a wall and she wants one. She is also uncaring when one day Guy come home from work. That day, he was lighting a fire in a house and the owner came in and lit the house on fire along with her self. This upset Guy and Mildred did not care. Also when Clairsse died, Guy's neighbor and friend, Mildred did not tell him and she thought nothing of it. On that day, Guy stole a book and he was trying to read it. He did not go to work because he was upset about the lady and wanted to know more about the book. The next day, Guy's boss, Beatty stopped by and Mildred started talking about the book. Montag stopped her before the boss knew what he was talking about. I think Mildred did these things because she was not happy with her life and she wants Guy to not be happy either.
Clairsse McCeallan is Guy Montag's neighbor. She is a crazy seventeen year old. Guy first meets he while he is on his way home from work and she questions on if he is happy. Clairsse is a very smart girl and is a good people reader. At school, everyone thinks she is "antisocial". This is because she is to intelligent to be able to communicate with the other kids her age. She is more mature. She also questions Guy if he is in love be putting a dandelion under his chin. The way she read the test was that he was not. She knew he was not in love and very unhappy. She also asked Guy if at one point in time if firefighters put out fires instead of start them. Guy never heard anything about this and he thought she was crazy. Clairsse knew the answer to the question and she wanted to see his reaction when the thought came up in his mind. Clairsse intrigued me a lot. She is a very different character and I was glad she was in the novel. She made it enjoyable
