Native American Animals being Hospitable

Mother Goose was getting ready for a big party that she was having at her house. She invited the whole farm to the dinner. There was Rat, Donkey, Horse, Cow, Pig, and Cat. They were all close friends of Mother Goose. They were also very excited to go to the dinner. Mother Goose is a great cook and she was cooking fish. Fish is a delicacy on the farm and it is not served very much. The little goslings were helping Mother Goose to prepare the food, and all the other animals were helping to prepare the farm for the big dinner. The horses were putting the tables out, the Cows were putting out the chairs, the cats were setting the table, the rats were picking flowers, the pigs were getting the activities for the animals to do and the donkeys were doing nothing. Everybody was helping out to make sure the evening was fun and everyone enjoyed. The fish arrived and all the animals, except the donkeys were pitching in to help fry the fish. Frying fish takes awhile and it goes by fast when everyone is helping out. While all the animals were cooking fish, the donkeys were out in the field eating the grass. When all the fish was cooked, the animals all sat down to enjoy the food and the activities that they prepared for the evening. The donkeys also came to enjoy the meal. The Goslings thought this was unfair that they had to do all the work while the donkeys did nothing. The animals put it by them and they were nice enough to let the donkeys eat with them. After dinner, all the animals went to pick up the table and wash the dishes and the donkeys left to go take a nap. The goslings were upset because they were tired also. The games that the pigs planned started. They were playing the donkeys favorite game, polo. The donkeys came back to play. Mother Gooses told them that they could not play. The donkeys were mad and they did not understand why they could not play. The donkeys saw the other farm animals having fun and they wanted to play. The donkeys went up to the animals and they said they were sorry. They promised they would help the animals out and they thanked them for their food. The donkeys learned that they need to be thankful and they need to help out on the farm.

Native American Culture #1

There is much to know about Native Americans. They are a very cool culture. They have a lot of customs. The first time that the Spanish came to America the Native Americans, Indians were there to greet them. They gave them food and housed them. The Spanish, Christopher Columbus, was very rude to him. He was the one who discovered the "New World." He did not actually discover America. He announced it to the eastern side of the world. He thought he was in India and that is why the Indians are named Indians. Columbus toke the Native Americans back to Spain to be traded and this started the slave trade and all the problems that the Native American are going to go through to this day. The Native American culture was greatly influenced by the Spanish. They used to be a society that was very into themselves, they wore no clothes, the females did a lot of the work, and they were a very faithful culture. They hunted a lot of wild life in the region and grew crops to eat. The females were incredibly strong. The females would take care of the home life while the man went out to catch the food. The women would work in the fields even when they were pregnant. They would work until the day they gave birth. Then, the next day, they would be back working in the fields. This is an extreme culture that was hardened more by the Spanish. They started to kill them and the cultures began to die. On the slave trade, they Indians had horrible living courtiers. Since that time period, the Indians have had a hard time. They were once recognized as slaves. When they got over that, they were discriminated from white people. Now Native Americans are recognized as people and not animals. Indians live on reservations and they are trying to keep their culture alive. I think the Indian culture is a cool thing and we should study and it was a sad thing that Columbus started.

Symoblism in The Grapes of Wrath

Symbolism was a big part of The Grapes of Wrath. The first symbolic thing was when Tom Joad was on his way home, he saw a turtle on the way home. He was studying the turtle and admiring it. It symbolised the feeling of security. Tom felt that way while he was in jail, but when he was out, he had no one to protect him, no food, or place to sleep until he got back home to his family. The shell of the turtle represented the feeling of a home and safety.
Another big symbol is Rose of Sharon being pregnant. It is because the Joad family is on their way to California for a new life and change. The baby stands for the hope and for that dream becoming a reality. The Granparents on the trip represent a totally different thing. They symbolize the past being left behind and the new change. On the way to California, they both die. This shows that the past is now behind them and there is no going back.
The biggest symbol of all is Rose of Sharon's baby being stillborn. The baby was not alive when it came out of the womb. It symbolizes the loss of hope. At this point in the novel, the family has no work, money, or place to stay. They realize that the dream they hoped to come true is not and will not come true because winter is coming and they have nothing. The baby is the sign that their awaited happiness will not come upon them.

The Catche in the Rye #10 (50!)

I did not like the novel The Catcher in the Rye. It was very hard for me to get to the end. I felt like there was not real plot to the books. It was just a story of a boys life. I did not care much for Holden Caulfield. He did not think anyone was as good as he was and he was always bagging on everyone. The book just had a lot of negative things in it that is did not like. His favorite word was phony. He loved to say that word and apply it to the people around him. There were enough phony words to be on every page. The only thing that he did not call a phony are he did not make fun of or have anything negative was his little sister. Even when she was making him made, he still was bragging about her and saying how smart she is. He also liked to use people. If I was one of his friends I would not hang out with him. He is rude and inconsiderate. He only thinks about himself and that is if he does much thinking at all. I just did not like the book at all. There was no climax that I could find. I would think that it is when he is walking across the streets and he is holding himself together and asking for help from his dead brother. I think this is because it is kind of where he realizes he is immature and that he needs to grow up, but he does not know how to. It was a hard book to read because he did not have anything nice to say. He did not follow the rule, "if you do not have anything nice to say, do not say anything at all". Holden was so immature that he could not keep it to himself. It make the book extremely hard to read. I AM DONE WITH BLOGGING!!!!!!!!!!!

The Catcher in the Rye #9

There are a lot of big symbols in the book The Catcher in the Rye. One symbol is Holden's red hat. He has this red hunting hat that he wears all the time. It is bright red and it has flaps on the side to cover his ears. The hat symbolizes his uniqueness and his wanting for attention. It does because not many people in New York wear hats like that and it draws attention to him. When he sees his sister, he gives her the hat. This symbolizes that he is going to try to change. They get in a fight and she gives it back, this shows that he did not change and he is just the way he is. he tries to give it back to his sister, but she does not want it. It shows that his sister is more mature than he is. The Museum of Natural History is also a symbol. It is because it shows the youthfulness that Holden has. He is walking through it one day and he realizes that the statues and the fake people are in the same spot they have been for as long as he can remember. This represents that he does not want to change to become more mature, but he realizes that there is a problem. The Catcher in the Rye is a job that Holden wants to have. In this job, he stands under a cliff and catches kids that fall off. There is a field above the cliff where all the kids play and they will fall off and he will catch them. This is a big symbol because it shows that he does not want change. He wants to stay there all his life and do the same thing everyday. The kids jumping off the cliff stands for their journey in the maturity. Holden is stuck in the middle. He still wants to be a kid, yet he wants to be mature. That is why he helps the other people cross and then nothing ever has to change for him and he can just be the Catcher in the Rye forever.

The Catcher in the Rye #8

There are a couple themes in the book The Catcher in the Rye. A small on is uniquiness. It is because Holden Caulfield a very different, unique person. He is very judgement and he acts like a tough guy. Okay mayby he is not that unique everyone is like that. Holden has a hard time growing up. I think it is because he is a middle child and he likes the attention. He says he does not like his parents much, but everyone says that. He flunked out of school. That was a sign that showed that he wants and needs some attention from his parents. He is not mature to realize that he does not want this kind of attention. When he went to go and visit his sister he did not want to get caught by his partents. He snuck in quietly and did not make any noise. When he was leaving, he said that he did not care if his parents caught him. I think he wanted them to catch him so they would have to spend some time with him. This makes Holden very immature. The novel is mostly about his way to becoming mature. He takes everything lightly and he seculdes himself. He does this because he is such a negative nancy. He does not like very many things. They only thing I could tell that he liked was his sister. He loved her very much and he did not critize her at all. Another theme is that we need to apply oursleves in the activities we do. Holden goes and stays the night and an ex teachers house. The teacher was talking to him about becoming mature and actually trying in school instead of just blowing it off like Holden as always done. He told Holden that he might be surprised to find out that he is good at something and he should find something he loves to do and he should do it.

The Catcher in the Rye #7

Holden Caulfield is a sixteen year old junior. He also likes to smoke and drink. He smokes about a pack of cigerettes a day. This is horrible. It is because he is killing himself and he does not even know it. During this time period, nobody knew the problems that smoking could cause. They might have, but they ignored them anyway. They could probably feel that their throwt was all scratchy. Once Holden was dancing with his little sister, Phoebe, and they danced about three dances and he was out of breathe while she was not even breathing hard. He is destroying his lungs and he is ignorings it. This time there is no education against smoking. There is no scientic proof that smoking causes cancer and sstuff. There was a point when Holden was sitting on a bench reading a magazine and it said that if you have a sore in your mouth for a long period of time you have cancer. He said that he had a sore that had been there for two weeks ane he thinks he has cancer. His little breother, Allie, died of cancer. He had lleukimia. I do not think that Holden had cancer, but he should have been more cautious and stopped smoking.
Holden also liked to drink. He knew place that he could go and they would not card him. He also had grey hair and was very tall. he liked to use this as an advantage. His favorite drink was vodka and soda. He ordered that mostly everywhere he went. He also said he is a heavy weight. He could sit there all night a keep putting down beers and not feel a thing. One night he was bored and lonely and he got drunk and went to walk in Central Park. Drinking is one stupid thing to do. It is because you do not really have control of what you do. I think it is a stupid thing to drink especially at his age because he is only sixteen and it can harm his growing process. Teenagers do it all the time without thinking of the consequences. This is a horrible thing because drinking causes more problems than it solves.

The Catcher in the Rye #6

New York City is an amazing place. I had the honor of visiting there this summer. It was so big and loud and just plain cool. The reason I am talking about New York is because the book, The Catcher in the Rye is set there. The main character Holden Caulfield was born and raised in New York. He knows where everything is and he is not afraid of it. When I went, my mom was terrified. I was not that bad. It was a little scary, but it was so cool. First off, the plane landing stripe was on top of the water. There was no room for it in the city, so it is on the outside on the water. It was cool looking out the window and seeing the skyline. We landed and got to our hotel. The hotel was huge!! It was also two blocks away from Times Square. We tried to get tickets to go see Wicked, but they were sold out. We went to Mama Mia instead. It was very good. When the play was over it was dark outside. New York City is a scary place to be when it is dark outside. Since we were by Times Square, there was a lot of cops. I do not understand how Holden was confident and so was his little sister to walk around alone. The next day we did the double decker bus tour. We got to look at all the big skyscrapers and everything. We got off and went to see the Sattue of Liberty. She is huge. We waited in line for about and hour to get on a huge ferry to take us there. We walked around and hung out. Then we toke the boat to Ellis Island. We did not get off, but it was a cool place to see. We did a lot of site seeing that day. One day we went to Central Park. We did not spend to much time there because it is so big and we thought that we would get lost if we did. Holden said that he knew Central Park like the back of his hand. He must have been in there a lot. I loved New York and I was sad to leave. I am glad I live where I live it is so peaceful and quiet, but I would like to live in New York for a little while.

The Catcher in the Rye #5

Holden Caulfiels is a very opinionated boy. He is sixteen years old and he is attending school at a boarding school called Pencey. He does not try very hard in school and he flunked out of the school and was kicked out. The only class he did pass was english. He has always loved to write and he enjoys to write. He is very tall. He is a junior and he is sixteen. He also is starting to get grey in his hair. He uses his height and his hair to an advantage to be able to get alochol and to drink. He also smokes. He has one older brother, D.B., who lives in Hollywood and writes scripts and books. Holden hates movies and he does not like his brother for being west and writing movies. He has a little sister Phoebe. He is a little fireball. She brings out the best and most passionate side of Holden. When he is around his sister, he does not think about how bad things are, he only tries to keep her happy. He did have a younger brother. His name was Allie. He died of leukiamia. He was two years younger that Holden. Holden loved his brother and he still misses him. He thought that he brother, though he was younger, was incredibly smart and he always had something good to say. When I said Holden is opioniated, I meant it. Throughout the whole entire book, all Holden does is complain. He comments on everything. He talks about how he hates his roomate and the guy who lives in the dorm next to his. He also calls everything phony. That got really annoying because he would call things that everyday people do phony. He had a thought about every thing there was. Most of the thoughts were not good thoughts either. He usually kept the thoughts in his head, but he was on a date with a girl and while she was in the middle of talking he told her she was a pain in the ass. I did not like Holden to much. I only liked him when he was with his sister because I could tell he loved her very much and he cared for her a lot.

The Catcher in the Rye #4

The title, The Catcher in the Rye is a unique title. At the beginning of the book, I had no idea what the significaince of the title was. I did not even know what the word "rye" meant. I looked it up in a dictionary. The meaning I think is correct for the novel is it is a wheat plant and "the seeds or grian of this plant, used for making flour and wiskey, and as livestock feed." I think That J. D. Salinger, the author, meant for the meaning of the word rye to be aquantied with wiskey. I think this because Holden Caufield, the main character liked to drink. He was only a journor in highschool and sixteen years old. He was not old enough to drink. That is a big thing to do and that is why I think that Salinger stressed the wiskey so much. As I read the book, I learned that the Catcher in the Rye is what Holden wanted to do with his life. I know this because when his little sister, Phoebe, asked him what he wanted to be in life, he answered he wanted to be the catcher in the rye. What he meant by this was that he imagined a bunch of little kids playing in a field and there was this big ledge. The kids did not know the ledge was there and they would fall off. Holden wanted to be standing in a field of rye and he wanted to catch the children as they fell. He just wanted to stand in the same spot and to catch the children and to be sure they are safe. This is a big change in Holden because so far as the book goes, it does not seem like Holden care for much. He thinks everyone is a phoney and he does not like stuff. His sister brings out his soft, sensitive side. I think this means that Holden tries to act tough, but he just wants to help people. This was a good title for the book and it had a lot of symbolic meaning in it.

The Cathcer in the Rye #3

The last part of the novel The Catcher in the Rye starts when Holden goes on a date with a girl named Sally. By this time, he has already left his boarding school and is currently staying in a hotel. He is taking Sally to a movie. He hates movies, but he is taking her to one anyway. After the movie, he takes her ice skating at the Rockafeller Plaza. They are neither good ice skaters and they both have weak ankles. After about an hour, they stop to go eat dinner. At the dinner, they are talking and he tells her she is a pain in the ass. She gets upset and she leaves. Now Holden is lonely and he does not know what to do. He calls up and old friend and they meet at a bar. Holden is trying to make conversation, but they man does not want to talk to Holden that much. Holden keeps drinking and he is becoming drunk. The man leaves and Holden stays for awhile longer until he is drunk. He leaves and goes into Central Park. He is worried that he will get sick from the cold and he will die. This worries him because he would feel horrible if he died without saying good by to his little sister, Phoebe. He decides to go and see her once he sobers up. He sneaks into the house because he does not want to wake up his parents. He goes into her room and reads her journal and then he wakes her up. She is a livly little girl and she is very excited to see her older brother. She tells him that their dad is going to kill him once he knew Holden was kicked out of school. Holden hung out with his sister a little longer and then he left to go stay the night a an old teachers house. The teacher tries to give Holden advice on how to live his life. Holden falls asleep on his couch and he wakes up to the teacher patting his head. Holden gets up and leaves immediatlly. He all of a sudden misses his yournger, dead brother and he is asking for help from him to stay alive. The story does not have a dramatic ending. All it was was he just did not want to explain what happened to him.

The Catcher in the Rye #2

In the book, The Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield is kicked out of his boarding school, Penncy, for not trying hard enough and failing all but one of his classes, English. It is a Saturday night in the middle of winter and Holden is supposed to be home on Wednesday. Him and his rooom mate, Stradlater, got in a fight. Holden decided that he did not want to stay at the school much longer, so he packed up his things and he left for the train station. When he got to New York City, he went to a hotel. It was a crappy hotel and there was a lot of strange people around. Holden is lonely and he wants someone to talk to. He thinks about people he can call. He wants to call his sibblings. He older brother, D.B., lives in Holleywood and he writes scripts and books for a living. His yournger sister Phoebe, is alseep at the time he wants to call. He does not want to speak to his parents because they probably do not know that he was kicked out of the school. He thinks about calling some girls, but two of them he did not. One girl who he wanted to see, she was a girl that is known for being a slut. She would not meet him because she wanted to get some beauty rest. Holden walks around town and tries to think about stuff to do. He is on his way back to his hotel room when the elevator man asks him if he wants a female to go to his room for a "throw". He agrees. This was a dumb thing for him to do because he is still a virgin. The girl come to the room and they do not do anything because Holden just wants some company and he wants to talk. She leaves and he goes back into town feelign depressed. He calls a friend, who is a beautiful girl to go to a movie with him. She agrees. He goes out and eats lunch and waits for her to go to a movie.

The Catcher in the Rye #1

In the novel, The Catcher in the Rye, Holden Cauldfield, is a teenage boy around the age of sixteen and he is living and attending school in a boarding school. At the beginning of the book we learn that Holden is being kicked out of the school because he is flunking so many classes. The only class he is passing is English. It is around Christman time and it is very cold outside. There is a big football game and Holden is watching it from the top of a hill. He then goes and visits his old History teacher. His wife makes him some hot chocolate. Holden has a room mate who is a big boy and thinks very highly of himself. One night he takes out a girl that Holden used to be very good friends with. Holden was very worried about her because he knows what guys like Stradler want from a girl like Jane. While Stradler is out the dorm next to Holden's has a guy named Ackley. He is a pimply kid that noone really likes. He and Holden hang out alot and they are kind of like friends. They went out to a movie that night, but they have already seen the movie playing, so they went and got cheeseburgers at a restrurant. Stradlater tole Holden to write a paper for him. Holden is very good at writing stories, so he writes it for him. He writes a story about his brother, Allie's, baseball glove. Allie was two years younger than Holden and he died by leukimia. He loved his brother very much and he thought he was a very smart boy. When Stradlater gets home, he did not like the paper and that makes Holden mad. Holden tries to get in a fight with him and he looses. He decides the next day he will leave three days early from school and go find someplace to stay in New York City.

Fahrenheit 451 # 14

In the novel Fahrenheit 451 it is illegal to read books. There is firefighters are are around to destroy the books. They destroy them by burning them until they have no books. This is a horrible thing to do. I think Ray Bradbury was trying to get to the point that we are all lazy and we do not want to read any more. In the book, it was mentioned that in schools the kids do not read books any more and literature is going down the drain. This means that all of out literature and grammar is going away. Without grammar, we would all talk like red necks. I wonder how the people even knew how to communicate and talk to eachother if they were never taught the correct way to speak. How does the schools teach leassons? If they can not have any books to read and it is illegal to read anything, how do they communicat to the students. I also wonder what the people who need to advertise upcoming events or just to let people know what is going on and how they get the message out. They said that there used to be a newspaper and printing companies in the old days, but they were now illegal and not allowed to be used. What if there was no books left in the whole world. What would we do? Would we be educated at all? Would we be as smart as we once were. I think they did this because they were so lazy they did not want to have to read anymore or to deal with the deciphering of the old literature and the old language. I also think the government does not want us to know what happened back in the old days because they think that nothing will happen like that again. They do not understand that history repeats itself. I am glad that we have books. They are very interesting and we can learn alot from them.

Fahrenheit 451 #13

In the novel, Fahrenheit 451, it is illegal to read and to own books. Guy Montag, who is a firefighter, is a firefighter who sets fire to books so no one will read them. At the fire department, there are dogs. They are called mechanical dogs. One day at the fire house, the dog was growling at Guy. He said this was the second time that the dog did this to him. He talked to the cheif about the dog and the cheif told him that someone probably programed him to do it and he would get it checked out. This was a crazy idea. The dogs are not actual dogs that are pets. Their only job is to sniff out books. They can sniff out the books so the firefighters can get rid of them. When the dogs are not doing anything, they are doing nothing. They just sit in their cages and veg out. This is sad because dogs are very good friends and companions to people. People have always had dogs for pets. I personally like dogs more than cats. I like them because if they are trained right and correctly they are very obediant and loyal to their owners. They are very good listeners and they are fun to play with. The dogs in the book are only played with when they are needed and to find the books that people have hidden. I have no clue what the dogs look like. I would guess that they look more like robots than actual dogs that bark and jump around. A good thing about a mechanical dog is they listen to the masters easily and they are obedient and they follow directions the first time they are given. When Guy Montag is reading a book, the cheif sends a dog to his door to warn him that the cheif knows he has books. When Guy Montag runs away, they send mechanical dogs after him to catch Guy. The dogs are great trackers, but they loose him when he jumps in the water. I am gld we have normal dogs.

Fahrenheit 451 #12

The chief of the fire department in the novel is a normal man. I do not think it would be a fun job to ever be in charge of something that big. I would not want to be a cheif of police or a firedepartment, or even more so in the army. I would not want to because it is a lot of stress and I would not want the lives of all the men on my hands. It would be a scary job. I think the cheif of the fire department also goes through this stress. It might not be as stressful because they do not put out fires, the extuinguish them. But, he also has to deal with the crazy people who jump into the burning building to save their books. When he learns that Guy Montag, a firefighter in his department, has a book, he knows that Guy is in trouble. During this time, it is illegal to read or to own books. Guy Montag stole a book and he is trying to read it. He has never read a book and he wants to be able to. The cheif learns about this and he tries to stop him before drawing to much attention to him. He sends a dog over to kind of warn him, but Guy ingnores the warning. The cheif has also got complaitns and alarms from the neighbors and Guy's wife about the books and his trying to read them. Guy has taken a couple days off of work. When he goes back to work, the cheif takes him to the back room where the cheif has over a thousand books. This is ironic because it is illegal to own books, yet the man who inforces this rule the most has thousands of them. The cheif says that it is okay for him to own them because he does not read them and he never has. That day the cheif gets another alarm to go to Guy's house. He takes the firetruck to Guy's house and he makes Guy set his own house on fire. This is sad because he must burn down his whole house. When he is done, Guy sets the cheif on fire. He said that it seemed that the cheif wanted to die. He was a crazy guy and I do not understand why he wanted to die.

Fahrenheit 451 #11

In the novel Fahrenheit 451, Guy Montag is a firefighter who must set fire to books. He goes into peoples houses that have books and he pours kerosene on the books and he sets them on fire. Fire is a very hot thing. It can do a lot of damage. It does because it is so hot and it is hard to stop it. Most people just wait for the fire to go out. Before the book was made, firefighters were people who helped to get fires to go out. They were needed because fires were something that were very dangerous and they can kill people. In the book, Guy in on a trip to start a fire and there is an old lady who steps into the room that is already covered in kerosene and she hads a match and she lights is and her house along with her went up in flames. She died. Fire is not something that people should mess with. Fire can kill people. It can also burn you to a crisp. Fire is something that when it happens it destroys everything, pictures, furniture, people, and much more. The reason that there is no need for real firefighters in this novel is because the houses are fireproof. This means that there is no fires and that no real firefighters are needed. Fireproof houses would be something great to have. Then we would not have to worry about insurence, or our houses burning down and loosing everything, or worrying about family or people dying in fires. Whenever I am at my grandmas hosue, we always have a fire lite. My grandpa and I sit by it and watch the flames. My granpa always says, "There is no two flames alike." That is something ironic because there is also no one two snowflakes alike either. Fire and ice are two completely different things. Dying in a fire or burning to death would be something very painful. It hurts just when I get a little burn. I would not want to die is a fire.

The Grapes of Wrath #16

In the novel The Grapes of Wrath, the Joad family is moving west to California in search for work and to get away from the banks that are stealing their land. Tom Joad was in prison for killing a man who tried to kill him in a bar. Tom said that he was not ahamed of what he did. He was glad he killed him. This is a sad thing because it is a horrible thing to kill a person and not to be ashamed of it. He was sentenced to seven years in the prison, but he was a good boy and was set free within four, but he was on parole. This is a good thing because though he did kill the man, he did it out of defense. On his parole, Tom Joad could not cross the state line of Oklahoma. When he found his family, he did anyway. On his way home Tom hitched hiked with a truck driver. It was a very nice thing for the driver because on the truck it said that he was not allowed to give rides to strangers. Tom called his bluff and he got a ride with him. The truck driver was probably scared of Tom because he told him that he killed a guy. The truck dirver did not want ot know anything about Tom. He did not even ask his name. This probably shows that he did not want to drive or be with Tom, but he did anyway. When Tom got out of the of the truck and started to walk. On the raod, he say a turtle. There was this whole big schpeal about the turtle. It talked about how he was moving so slow and he was in the middle of the road and he could get ran over. I think Tom is a little crazy because he is very interested in the turtle. The turtle was also on its death bed by walking in the middle of the road because a truck or a car could come by and run him over, and he would die. Tom Joad is a little crazy. He goes out of his parole, and he kills another guy. I do not understand why he would do this. It was very stupid.

The Grapes of Wrath #15

The Joad family did a very brave thing by moving west to California. It was brave because they had no family out there and they had no way of knowing for certian that they would be garentied work. Pa Joad saw an article advertising work out in California. It said that 800 people were needed. A friendly neighbor made a good point when he said that the farmer who owns the farm propbably printed 5,000 sheets and 20,000 people show up. So then the farmer only takes the first 800 workers not the other how ever many are left. He just slames the door in their face and tells them to go somewhere else. The Joad family is a big family I think there was about fourteen people that were on the journey west to California. It was a big challange to be able to move all of the family togehter in one vehicle. Some of the family rode on top of the car. This is crazy. The cars do not go very fast. They are going about fourty five miles per hour. That was fast for that time of the history of America and they had to hold on because there was not enough seats for them in the car. They also had to be able to hold all of their stuff in the car. The family left with about 150 dollars. This was no fortune, but it was enough to get them to California and to find work and get more money. Pa sold all the appliances in the house. There was good things and bad things about a family this big. A good thing was that all of the people could work. That means that more money is coming in. A bad thing is that it is a lot of mouths to feed. Ma Joad did a great job with feeding her family and staying strong for her family. The Joads did a brave thing by traveling west. It probably was not the smartest, but it was the bravest.

The Grapes of Wrath #14

Corn and crops were a very improtant thing back in the 1930's. It was needed to feed the farmers families and to raise money for the families. It has always been around. Without the Indians, we would not have corn. It was a good thing they were nice and taught us about corn and how to plant it and take care of it. The Joad family has a cornfield on their farm. They harvest and plant it by hand and horse. This was a time when the tractor was coming around. The invention of the car helped the rise of the tractor. I think it did because we learned the type of engineering that is needed to become a part of the tractors. The tractors can harvest and take care of the corn much faster than a human or a horse can. Tractor were a great invention because they speed up the process of farming. They were also a bad thing around this time period because the farmers could not afford them. This is what happened to the Joad family. They could not afford to buy a tractor so they could not harvest enough corn to keep up with society and the bank was taking their land and they had to move. Tractors are very expensive so only the big farm companies could be able to afford the tractors and this is why the Joad family went to California. In California, they picked peaches and cotton. Picking peaches would be hard for a tractor to do because the peaches are so sensitive and they would bruise easily, unless the machine was gentle. There is now tractors that can pick the cotton so the Joad family got lucky enough to be able to hand pick the cotton. It was a good thing there was no tractors because the Joads would have no jobs. The problem the Joad family had was that every other family thought they would be the only ones going to California and all the harvests were picked very fast and there was no more work to do.

The Grapes of Wrath #13

Rose of Sharon, what kind of name is that? Is her name Rose or Sharon. I think Ma could not think which name she liked the best, so she names her both. But why wasn't it Sharon of Rose. I just think it is a crazy name. And is Sharon her middle name? Would she have a middle name? Say her middle name was Karen. Her name would be Rose of Sharon Karen Joad. That is one mouth full. Ma Joad does not even say her name correctly she calls her Rosasharon. That is cheating. If Ma wanted to name her something complicated then she should take the time to pronounce her name correctly. Rose of Sharon is married, or knocked up by a guy named Connie. That is also a girls name. There was some pretty weird names in this book, The Grapes of Wrath. Connie was a thinker. He liked to do engineering and stuff. He got Rose of Sharon pregnant. She was pregnant the whole way to California. She believed that they would be one small happt family together. That is when things toke a turn for the worst. Connie left Rose of Sharon on the trip to California. He did not want to go to California so he left his family. This was an incredible rude thing to do becasue that baby does not have a father. He was very selfish and left his family to fiend for themselves. That is why I do not think they were married. I do not think he could have left if he was married to her. But sad news, the baby was a stillborn. Rose of Sharon and he baby symbolized the end of a new begiging. the baby represented the chance for a new life in California and when it died all hope was lost. After the baby was dead, Rose of Sharon had some extra milk and the family came across a man and a boy who had not eaten. She breast fed the man back to health. That is so nasty. I understand that it is for emergencies, but it is still weird and awkard.

The Grapes of Wrath #12

The grandparents in the novel The Grapes of Wrath were unique people. Granpa was a farmer. He farmed his land. He loved his land. He did not want to leave when the family was leaving. He wanted to stay because he has been with it for as long as he can remeber. He was around when all there was to farming was using your hands and animals. He was not good at the transition off to using tractors. He believed that he could still do the work that he always did, even without a tractor. He is a strong man for doing this, becuase even though he is old, he still wants to lift the heavy things and to do the hard work. He is also a stuborn man because when the family is getting ready to leave, he does not want to go. He must go because the bankers are taking the Joad family land and granpa has no where to go. I would not want to go if I was him either. I bet he thought it was a stupid idea to go to California because he knew that there was nothing out there to offer them. He wanted to stay with his friend, but he had to go with his family. That was a smart thing to do. I bet his family was happy to have him with them, even if he did complain alot. On the trip, he died. The family was stopped at a campsite and he went quite and a nice family toke him into their tent and let him die in their tent. This was very nice of them because it would be scary to have a guy die in the place you sleep. He was also a symbol of the past leaving them because his wife, granma, died also on the way to California. This means that the Joad family is leaving behind thier past to move on to the next stage of their lives.

The Grapes of Wrath #11

Back in the 1930's there was a big class difference. By this I mean that there were different levels of people in their income and how their style of life is. Today most people are in the middle class. That means that we do not get a lot of luxurious things, but we do make enough money to be happy. There is also the wealthy class that gets everything they want because they have the money for it. Then there is the poor class. The poor class is a class that I feel very sorry for. I do because sometimes they can not help it. They might try to get money, but it is hard. It is mostly hard because of the way they were raised. They were raised in a third world way. Third world is a term that we use a lot with foreign countries that do not have a lot of rich people and the living conditions for the common people are cruel. These are classes that are important and have always been important. Some people have gone above their class. For example, Oprah Winfrey. She was raised in a shack, now she is very rich and famous. The Joad family was in the middle to lower class. They did not have very much money. That is why they moved to California. They were forced off their land because they could not afford to live on the land because they needed to own a tractor to be able to keep up. They could not afford a tractor. They moved to California in search for money. This was kind of a wise choice. It probably was becuse they needed to leave their home, but the promises in California was lies. The Joad family along with the other families in the 1930's and so on to this day are always trying to get out of their class because they think money means happiness. It does not.

Fahrenheit 451 #10

I really liked the novel Fahrenheit 451. The title caught my eye first. It did because it was not a generic title it was a factual title. 451 degrees is the temperature that books burn. It represents the novel greatly because it is about the burning of books. I like the story line to. It was easy to follow. It was simple because from the beginning of the novel we understand that Guy Montag does not like his life and he wants a change. This shows me that not everyone is perfect. I liked some of the characters. Clairsse McCeallan was my favorite. She was because she was not afraid to be herself and she was a good people reader. People like her scare me because they know more than the information they are given. They know when someone is lying. I also liked Clairsse because she did random things. I wish I was more like her. though she was a little weird. I was sad when I heard she died. It was not official that she died, I like to think that she came back and was in the pack of the nomads where Guy ended up in the end of the book. Mildred was a horrible character. She did let us know the true nature of Guy, she was still dreadful. I am glad I am not married to her. The style of writing kind of confused me. Sometimes I would be reading and then all of a sudden I would have no idea what he was talking about and I would miss the little details. This is a classic that does not seem like a classic. It does not because Ray Bradbury tried to write the book in the future. His future is about the time now. It is funny to see some of the things he added from his time, like the salary of the workers. I bet the never dreamed of someone making fifty thousand dollars in a year. I would recommend this book to people because it is short, it has a good message, and it is well written.

Fahrenheit 451 #9

In the novel Fahrenheit 451, The firefighters started fires. Most firefighters these days put out fires and these ones started them. They start fires because someone said that it is illegal to read books and all the books should be destroyed. Guy Montag is a firefighter. At the beginning of the novel, he loves his job and it seems like it makes him happy. The houses are now fireproof so real firefighters who put fires out are not needed. This is ironic because it is impossible for a house to be fire proof because of all the fire things in a house hold. There is the fire place, the stove, and even the oven. Theses are things that can easily set fire. I have no idea how they made the houses fire proof, but it must work if firefighters are not needed to put out fires. It is also ironic because when Guy is caught with the books he must set fire to his house. I do not understand how a house can be fire proof and be set on fire, it does not make sense. I just find it ironic also that they are starting fires instead of putting them out. They should not be called firefighters anymore. They do not fight fires, they help them. They should be called firehelpers.
The chief of the of the fire department has a secret of his own. His secret is that the fire department owns a library full of thousands of books. This is weird because it is their job to burn books, yet they have a lot of them. They Chief, Beatty, said that as long as he does not read them, they are okay to have. There is no proof that he has not read them. Once Guy finds out about books he needs help interrupting them. He calls a professor. The professor and the chief are the same except the chief is knowledgeable, but he does not care about books, and Faber, the professor, is knowledgeable, but he likes the knowledge. It is ironic that in the middle of the book, Beatty dies. This is a book full of irony.

Fahrenheit 451 #8

The book Fahrenheit 451 has a very good message to it. Guy Montag is a firefighter who starts fires. He must destroy all the books because it is illegal to read books. During the course of the novel Guy Montag is faced with a hard choice. His choice is to follow the crowd and keep doing what he is doing, or to stray away and stand for what is real. His wife, Mildred, discourages him from reading books and she does not support him in any way. As the book goes, Guy changes. He changes for the good. He realizes that reading is something magical and that everybody should enjoy it. It should not be destroyed. When he realizes this, he tries to get more books. As he does this, he draws more attention to himself and he is caught with the books. This leads him to run away and find a group of people that also read. When he arrives, they great him. They ask if he has any books and he says they are all in his mind. They wanted this because if it is in their mind they police can not prove they read books. The choice the Guy Montag made was a great choice on his behalf. He knows what is right for himself and for the United States, but they will not change. The nomads that Guy is with also want a change.
The biggest theme is that America is lazy. It is because people do not want to go to school, they do not want to read the news paper, and they do not want to follow written rules. They said that the school systems were starting to not be a popular and not many kids are going. This shows that reading is important in school. The government does not want the population to know what happened back in the old days and they are trying to hide it from the people. The theme of the novel is to get off your lazy butt and go do something instead of trying to avoid it by ruining it.

Fahrenheit 451 #7

The tone in the novel Fahrenheit 451 changed throughout the course of the novel. At the beginning, Guy Montag acts like he is happy. We are led to believe he is happy. It is said that he loves his job, he enjoys to burn stuff, and he get pleasure from it. On his way home Guy Montag meets his new neighbor, Clairsse. She questions he actually happiness. He believes he is happy but he soon realizes that is all a faced he puts on for the public. After she asks this question, the tone of the book starts to go down fast. When Guy walks into his house, it is pitch dark. He is running into stuff and he trips over his wife empty pill bottle and realizes that she has overdosed on drugs. This takes the happy tone waaaay down. It does because his wife was trying to commit suicide. This makes their relationship weird, though the next day she denies that she did anything wrong. When Guy is on a call one day, he is starting a fire and there is an old lady in the attic that will not leave her books. He dies with them. This changes the tone to depressing because Guy becomes sick and he skips work. I found out that he stole a book and he is trying to read it. This lightens the tone because it shows that he is trying to steer away from the path and become different and decide to read a book though it is illegal. When he does go to work he talks to his chief. The chief takes Guy to his home because Mildred called in that Guy had books in the house and was reading them. This changes the tone dramatically because Guy was betrayed by his own wife and he was forced to burn down his own house. Guy ran away and he found a group of nomads. When he found them, the tone changed in a good way because they were trying to change the world back to normal also.

Fahrenheit 451 #6

In the novel Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, there is a lot of symbolism. There is symbolism on the first page. The symbol of the permanent smell of kerosene on Guy Montag symbols that he is scarred from lighting and destroying so many books and lives. Another symbol is the number 451 on Guy's helmet. This shows that he is reminded when ever he works what he purpose of the job is to do and to make sure it is done right. Death is a big symbol in the book. It is because there is a lot of death and suicide. In the beginning of the novel Mildred, Guy Montag's wife was trying to kill herself. Death symbols the end of an era. Reading and enjoying books was something that was done for so long, it will not suddenly leave. The firefighters, the cops, and the government it trying to get rid of it and it is also killing the people by it. Another symbol was Mildred. Mildred stood for the unhappiness in Guy Montag's life. Guy could be happy and he acts happy, but he is not. Mildred is the main reason for his unhappiness. Clairsse stands for hope. She does because while Guy is being forced to destroy books and he loves its, Clairsse makes him start to realize that he is doing the wrong thing and there is a way to do right. The burning lady is also a symbol. She symbols the love of the books. She does because she loves the books so much she died for them. Fire is a big part of the book. Fire symbols the end. Fire is used to burn down house and books. Burning down houses leaves families no where to go. At this time, houses were fireproof, but the houses that were burnt down were left to nothing but ash. As for books burning. It means the end of civilization. It does because all of the records are lost. The Constitution was burnt. This means that people are becoming so lazy they cannot even read it and they want it gone. This a deep symbolic book.

Fahrenheit 451 #5

Mildred is the dreadful wife of Guy Montag. She is a very rude and selfish lady. I say selfish because when we first meet her she is laying in her bed, listening to the radio, and over dosing on her pills. When Guy takes her to the hospital, she does not even thank him. She acts like it did not even happen. This shows that she does not care for many people besides herself. She is also extremely rude to Guy Montag. She is always wanting more. She is a play writer and she want a "Fourth wall" in her house. Guy tells her that one wall is two thousand dollars and she does not care. This shows she is rude and uncaring because she does not work and Montag does not want a wall and she wants one. She is also uncaring when one day Guy come home from work. That day, he was lighting a fire in a house and the owner came in and lit the house on fire along with her self. This upset Guy and Mildred did not care. Also when Clairsse died, Guy's neighbor and friend, Mildred did not tell him and she thought nothing of it. On that day, Guy stole a book and he was trying to read it. He did not go to work because he was upset about the lady and wanted to know more about the book. The next day, Guy's boss, Beatty stopped by and Mildred started talking about the book. Montag stopped her before the boss knew what he was talking about. I think Mildred did these things because she was not happy with her life and she wants Guy to not be happy either.
Clairsse McCeallan is Guy Montag's neighbor. She is a crazy seventeen year old. Guy first meets he while he is on his way home from work and she questions on if he is happy. Clairsse is a very smart girl and is a good people reader. At school, everyone thinks she is "antisocial". This is because she is to intelligent to be able to communicate with the other kids her age. She is more mature. She also questions Guy if he is in love be putting a dandelion under his chin. The way she read the test was that he was not. She knew he was not in love and very unhappy. She also asked Guy if at one point in time if firefighters put out fires instead of start them. Guy never heard anything about this and he thought she was crazy. Clairsse knew the answer to the question and she wanted to see his reaction when the thought came up in his mind. Clairsse intrigued me a lot. She is a very different character and I was glad she was in the novel. She made it enjoyable

Fahrenheit 451 #4

Guy Montag is a firefighter. He is a firefighter who sets fires instead of extinguishing them. He does this because it is illegal to read books and he does not realize what is happening to the world because no one can read. Guy in the beginning of novel loves his job. He loves the smell of kerosene on him and he likes the feeling of helping out. On his way home one day, he meets his neighbor, Clairsse. She is a crazy little girl. She questions Montag's happiness. He tells her he is happy. Once he gets home, he realizes that he is not. To prove he is not happy he walks into his wife's bedroom and he sees that she has overdosed on drugs to try to kill her self. One day he is putting on a fire at an old ladies home and he steals one of the books. He went home and he was looking through the book. This shows that he is curios to know what is so bad with books that people are not allowed to read them. He is trying to read it, but he can not understand what the novel means. He calls a professor, Faber, to help explain. Once Guy knows what he is reading, he is anxious to show it off. When Mildred has friends over, he reads them poetry. This is a stupid thing to do. Faber know it is, but Montag ignores the warnings and keeps reading. I think he is trying to make the people realize that books are magical and they should not be destroyed. He also thinks that since he is a firefighter, he deserves to be listened to. He uses this, but no one listens or trusts him. Guy Montag is a very interesting man. At the beginning of the novel he loves his job. As the book goes on he realizes the power and the hope he is ruining from ridding the books. He is going to try to change this at the end of the book.

Fahrenheit 451 #3

The third pard of the novel Fahrenheit 451 starts when Guy Montag must burn his house. He was caught reading books. It is illegal to read books so they must be burned. Before Guy got the books, he was a firefighter who set the books on fire so noone would read them. His wife, Mildred called the fire department to let them know about Montag's actions. When they arrived at the house, Guy was told that he must do it himself because it is his problem. When a house is burnt, all of the house is burnt not just the books. He burns his house starting with the beds. He does this and then he put the flame thrower on the cheif, Beatty. He kills the cheif. He was worried because Beatty did not even try to stop him it was like he wanted to die. Guy digs up some of the books in the yard and runs to a friends house to get help. His friend can not help him so he leaves. He is running down the road when he sees a car coming down the road. He starts to run as fast as he can. The falls and the car goes zooming by him. He is relieved that it is not the cops. He finds a creek and starts to escape through it. The dog that is tracking him lost his scent at the river and could not find him. He came on shore by a group of people that escaped and are living in the forests. The guy that greats him is Granger. Granger allows Guy Montag to stat because he knows he needs help. There is a tv and Guy notices that is on a police chase about him. Granger says that they will end the chase soon because the audince will get bored. He was right because soon the helicopter came on a stranger walking on the road and they attacked him and killed him. Guy realizes that they need to do something. They decide to go into the towns and tell people the stories.

Fahrenheit 451 #2

In the novel Fahrenheit 451, Guy Montags job is to set books on fire. It is illegal to read books so they must all be destroyed. One day, Guy is on a run to destroy books. It was a hidden library in an attic. Usually the cops get rid of the people so the firefighters do not have to. The cops thought they got the old lady who lived there out, but she snuck back into the attic. The firefighters already had the kerosene spread all over. Guy saw that the old lady had a match in her hand and he sptinted away. The old lady set her house and herself on fire. This disturbed buy a lot. When he went home to tell his wife, Mildred, she did not care much. She did not listen. He was also informed that his neighbor, Clairsse was dead. She was killed by getting ran over by a car. Seeing the old lady kill herself the books made Guy Montag start to think about the books he is burning and he stole a book. He wants to quite his job because he is starting to question if what he does is right.
Guy Montag starts to collect books and he is trying to read them. He does not know what is going on during the books and he calls an old professor to help him explain. The professor, Faber is skeptical on if he should come, but Guy assures him that he is safe. One day, Mildred had some friends over. Guy decided that he would show off and read them a poem. They were is shock and scared what they should do. The next day Guy goes to work. Cheif Beatty calls him in his office and shows Guy a secret library he has with thousands of books. The cheif says it is on that he has these because he does not read them. The alarm went off and Montag got in the truck. He noticed that Beatty was driving and he never drives. He realizes that they were at his house.

Fahrenheit 451 #1

Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 is about a man named Guy Montag and his career as a firefighter. There is something strange about his job being a fireman. It is because instead of putting out fires, he sets them. In this time period, it is illegal to read books so it is the firemans job to get rid of all the books. The first part is called "The Hearth and the Salamander". A hearh is a fireplace and the Salamander is a symbol to the firemen and it is what their truck is called. In the begining of the book, Guy is talking about his pleasure he recieves from burning books and ot see fires. On his way home, he meets his new neighbor, Clairsse McClellan . She is a very different character and she talks about random things. She tells him he smells like kerosene and asks if at one point in time firefighters did put out fires rather than start them. He denies that ever happened. She questions Guy Montags happiness. Guy says that he is happy, but he knows that he is not. Then, he goes into his house. His house is very dark. He sees his wife Mildred. She is sitting on the bed listening to a radio. He kicks a empty bottle of medicine on the ground and realizes that Mildred has overdosed on her pills to try to commit suicide and calls the doctors. She has her stomach pumped. The next day, Guy asks her why she toke all her pills and she denies that she does. The next day he goes to work at the fire station. They have a dog. The dog was grawling at Guy and he told the cheif, Beatty, and the cheif said he wouldl get the dog checked. This was the second time the dog did this Montag. During the next couple weeks, Guy Montag sees Clairsse outside and he talks to her everyday. One day he does not see her though.
