Fahrenheit 451 #12

The chief of the fire department in the novel is a normal man. I do not think it would be a fun job to ever be in charge of something that big. I would not want to be a cheif of police or a firedepartment, or even more so in the army. I would not want to because it is a lot of stress and I would not want the lives of all the men on my hands. It would be a scary job. I think the cheif of the fire department also goes through this stress. It might not be as stressful because they do not put out fires, the extuinguish them. But, he also has to deal with the crazy people who jump into the burning building to save their books. When he learns that Guy Montag, a firefighter in his department, has a book, he knows that Guy is in trouble. During this time, it is illegal to read or to own books. Guy Montag stole a book and he is trying to read it. He has never read a book and he wants to be able to. The cheif learns about this and he tries to stop him before drawing to much attention to him. He sends a dog over to kind of warn him, but Guy ingnores the warning. The cheif has also got complaitns and alarms from the neighbors and Guy's wife about the books and his trying to read them. Guy has taken a couple days off of work. When he goes back to work, the cheif takes him to the back room where the cheif has over a thousand books. This is ironic because it is illegal to own books, yet the man who inforces this rule the most has thousands of them. The cheif says that it is okay for him to own them because he does not read them and he never has. That day the cheif gets another alarm to go to Guy's house. He takes the firetruck to Guy's house and he makes Guy set his own house on fire. This is sad because he must burn down his whole house. When he is done, Guy sets the cheif on fire. He said that it seemed that the cheif wanted to die. He was a crazy guy and I do not understand why he wanted to die.
