In the novel, The Catcher in the Rye, Holden Cauldfield, is a teenage boy around the age of sixteen and he is living and attending school in a boarding school. At the beginning of the book we learn that Holden is being kicked out of the school because he is flunking so many classes. The only class he is passing is English. It is around Christman time and it is very cold outside. There is a big football game and Holden is watching it from the top of a hill. He then goes and visits his old History teacher. His wife makes him some hot chocolate. Holden has a room mate who is a big boy and thinks very highly of himself. One night he takes out a girl that Holden used to be very good friends with. Holden was very worried about her because he knows what guys like Stradler want from a girl like Jane. While Stradler is out the dorm next to Holden's has a guy named Ackley. He is a pimply kid that noone really likes. He and Holden hang out alot and they are kind of like friends. They went out to a movie that night, but they have already seen the movie playing, so they went and got cheeseburgers at a restrurant. Stradlater tole Holden to write a paper for him. Holden is very good at writing stories, so he writes it for him. He writes a story about his brother, Allie's, baseball glove. Allie was two years younger than Holden and he died by leukimia. He loved his brother very much and he thought he was a very smart boy. When Stradlater gets home, he did not like the paper and that makes Holden mad. Holden tries to get in a fight with him and he looses. He decides the next day he will leave three days early from school and go find someplace to stay in New York City.
