The Grapes of Wrath #6

Tom Joad just got out of prison for killing a guy. He was in a bar and a guy pulled a knife on him, so Tom picked up a shovel and he beat him in the head until the man died. He went to McAlester. McAlester is a jail in Oklahoma. He was supposed to be in the jail for seven years, but since it was not his fault completely that he killed the guy he was able to get out in four years. The jail fed the men regularly, told them what to do, and gave them a bed to sleep in. When Tom left, he did not know what time to get up and he went hungry a lot. When he was out of jail, he was on parole. With his parole, he needs to check into the jail every once in awhile and he can not cross the state line. He caught a ride with a trucker to take him to his house. On the way, he met the precher, Casy. Cast went the rest of the way to the Joah farm with Tom. When Tom arrived at the farm, his family was really happy to see him. They told Tom that they were traveling west in search for work. They could not afford to run the farm anymore with the bank always taking their money. For Tom to stay out of jail, he must not cause any trouble with the law. If he starts any brawls with the cops, they will see that he is outside his parole and send him back to McAlester. Tom travels outside his parole to be with his family. We was away from his family for over four years and he does not want to leave them again so he ignores his parole. Tom can not stay away from trouble and he gets into a fight with a cop. Casy toke the blame for Tom and he went to jail. Tom was able to get away. Later while the family was in a camp Tm went outside the camp to see what all the comotion was about. The workers at the camp were on strike and Casy was the one leading it. The cops came and Tom got into another fight and he thought he killed yet another man. Casy also died that night. Tom went back to his family, but he could not work because his face was all bruised up. The family left and went to another camp. Tom hid out in the forest while his family worked. His little sister got in a little fight and told another girl about Tom. Tom had to leave his family. I think most of Tom's actions are ruled by his pride. He is a very prideful person and does not want to be wrong.
