John Steinveck wrote a novel that is very different than most novels. His novel follows the story of the Joad family heading west to California in search for a new life away from the banker and the renters. During the course of his novel, Steinbeck intercedes the story of the Joads with stories of random family also on a journey west. These stories of the families are usually going through the same situations the Joads are going through. It shows the hard times that all the families went through, not just the Joads. There is also stories aobut the country and the road the Joads are traveling on. John Steinbecks creative way to write this story confused me at first, but once i got used to it, it was kinda neat. Also the language that Steinbeck used was really confusing and toke awhile to get used to. All the people talked like they never went to school. They pronounced the words uncomplete and used the wrong tense.
I liked the book. At the begining, I thought this book would be pointless, but as I got into the book, I was not able to but the book down. The characters drew me in. I was amazed by Ma Joad and how she was able to put her feelings aside and care about her family more than herself. Also the hard times the family had to go through really drew me in. It was incredibly sad that these event would actually happen to a family back then. The little things that happened to families were hard, but they kept going. The end of the novel is very disturbing to me. I thought is was weird that Rose of Sharon brest fed the man so he could live. It is also kind of inspiring that the people all help eachother out. This is a book that I would only recomend to people who like to read about the history of our nation.
